Focus Poetry
day 1:

We reviewed left-to-right directionality and found sight words
(two, white, at, on).
We reviewed punctuation and found rhyming words (1 pair
spelled the same, the other pair spelled differently). We
found some sight words (I, a, my, in, me)
day 4:
read poem together, move/stamp/clap/snap to the
rhythm, reinforce print concepts
day 5:
students add poem to poetry journal, then illustrate and
take it home to share with their families
They illustrated the poem and then "highlighted" (with yellow
crayon) the title and known sight words.
They illustrated the poem and highlighted the pairs of
rhyming words and known sight words.

I had a little pig.
I fed him in a trough.
He got so fat
His tail dropped off.
So I got me a hammer
And I got me a nail
And I made my little pig
a brand-new tail.
