Shared Reading:

book, title, author, and illustrator, then read for
enjoyment!

on new vocabulary

day 3:
reread the book with the children, focus on print
conventions
We highlighted rhyming words: shoe, glue, stew, blue, flu,
shampoo, etc.

day 4:
reread the book with the children, experimenting with
intonation and expression, focus on same/further print
conventions or language targets
We made a list of all the highlighted rhyming words, then
sorted them by rime (-oo, -ue, -ew, etc.).

day 5:
reread and respond (responses can be oral, written,
or visual, depending on the shared reading book)
We respond to the book by creating a simple 4-6 line poem
using the rhyming words from our list.
This is a great book
for exploring rhymes,
as well as number
words and simple
adjectives.  It'll
quickly become a
class favorite!
