We wrote this book for the same reasons that spurred us to write our other
books. We wanted to spend the bulk of our time planning the memorable
lessons not the day-to-day routine lessons. We knew that emergent readers
would benefit our students’ word recognition and word attack skills, as well
as aiding in comprehension. However, we found it difficult to find enough
quality readers. So, we spent time poring over high frequency word lists and
