Bones
by Ferne Connor
Bones in my fingers,
Bones in my toes,
Not in my ears,
And not in my nose.
Bones in my hands,
Bones in my feet,
Bones in my legs
Help me run down the street.
Focus Poetry
day 1:
introduce poem, invite
predictions, discuss the
message
day 2:
read poem together, discuss
new/interesting vocabulary
We talked about how we have
cartilage instead of bones in our
ears and noses.
day 3:
read poem together, use poem
to introduce or reinforce any
new print concepts
We reviewed sight word "my".
.
day 4:
read poem together,
move/stamp/clap/snap to the
rhythm, reinforce print concepts
We discussed what would happen
if we didn't have bones. We talked
about animal with their "bones"
(exoskeletons) on the outside.
Ours, of course, are on the
inside.... a perfect lead-in for
finding the word "in".
day 5:
students add poem to poetry
journal, then illustrate and take it
home to share with their families
They illustrated the poem and then
"highlighted" (with yellow crayon)
the "in"s and other known words.
